Year Roundup & 21 years of PMR Memorial Trust – Ravi Pendurthi reflects

FOUR OF US AS SIBLINGS, INDEPENDENTLY SETTLED IN THE USA AND AS A MISSION TO GIVE BACK TO OUR SOCIETY IN INDIA, WE FOUNDED PENDURTHI MADHUSUDAN RAO (PMR) MEMORIAL TRUST IN THE YEAR 2000. TRUST HAD BEEN SUCCESSFULLY PROGRESSING.

I AM DELIGHTED TO SHARE THAT, IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 21 YEARS OF SATISFACTORY JOURNEY SO FAR, AND MUCH MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN AND FARMERS IN THE FUTURE!

Ravi Pendurthi

I was born in 1961 with three older siblings Dr. Usha Rani, Dr.Tribhuvan Kumar & Dr. Vijaya Bharathi. All of them had their aksharaabhyaasam in Bhiravunipalli, Nelakondapalli Mandal, Khammam District, Telangana.

India is our mother land and my parents are Madhusudan Rao and Suguna. Government gave free education to all of us as we grew up poor. The USA has been our aunt since early 1980s and provided opportunities to utilize and excel our abilities to contribute to the American and Indian societies.

All four of us are independently established well within the top 1% of the USA population! As a mission to give back to the Indian society, in the year 2000 Pendurthi Madhusudan Rao (PMR) Memorial Trust was started. Initially, trust funded, established and supported a high school in Bhiravunipalli village with a new building, more land and all other requirements, as if it is a private school.

A focused local initiative!

PMR Memorial Trust operates using five principles. One, it supports mainly existing government programs. Second, trust works with other non-profit organizations to utilize their programs. Third, trust takes up programs that benefit many rather than single individuals, exception to this is, when there is a special skill or talent of an individual that requires support and encouragement. Fourth, trust encourages and expects locals to own projects with local contributions with either cash or kind. And fifth, projects are geographically located in Nelakondapalli Mandal, to allow projects focused and results measured well.

Education and employment of youth is a priority!

Since 2015, PMR Trust is supporting thousands of kids in all 14 government high schools and in all 33 government primary schools in Nelakondapalli Mandal. Trust promoted English as a medium of instruction, distributed TVs to provide digital education, provided interesting books for libraries for creating reading habit/interest, promoted better writing skills, provided scholarships for higher studies by unaffordable poor students, employed additional teachers, provided bicycles to poor students from nearby villages to come to high schools, provided school benches to all schools, and also gave ID cards; and established a National Academy of Construction (NAC) center at Nelakondapalli to impart training and employ youth for skill based jobs.

Utilizing the five guiding principals, trust helped to improve government schools teaching in par with private schools and were able to achieve hundred percet graduation in all high schools for the last four years. (Of course, last 2 years due to COVID19, they were automatically promoted). Trust also helped in finding employment for more than 150 youth each year.

Raitu Sahaya Vedika – A Covid Result!

PMR Memorial Trust has been working with Bhakta Ramadasu Service Society (BRSS) to help educate farmers with low cost and better profit strategies in Nelakondapalli Mandal. As a part of supporting farmers, PMR Memorial Trust from 2015 conducted workshops, provided file folders to farmers to safe keep their important documents, and provided degenerate seed bottles.

Due to Covid, since 2020, trust has been working closely with a newly established, independent, nonprofit organization, Raitu Sahaya Vedika (RSV), a web based platform for agriculture experts (scientists, agriculture officers, industry experts and progressive farmers) and farmers. RSV discusses crop issues via WhatsApp groups and Sunday Webinars starting at 7 PM IST (webinar link: https://meet.google.com/wph-iwki-nsy) every week. Webinars are conducted remotely, allowing everyone to access from the comfort of their home or other locations with a smart phone. Ravi Pendurthi, trust chairperson actively participates in RSV activities and moderates RSV webinars!

Latest Activities – Covid Result!

RSV webinars were born and evolved due to covid impact. These webinars are designed to advise/share low cost and high profit methods/experiences to progressive farmers. They also clear thousands of farmers doubts timely by experts and fellow progressive farmers for various crops. Webinar details are recorded and disseminated through RSV’s Mandal wise 150+ WhatsApp groups. Webinars and messages can reach everyone from the comfort of their homes/cell phones on a daily basis or on demand to clear their questions/doubts with effective solutions!

Ravi Pendurthi is the son of our soil and established PMR Memorial Trust with the support of his siblings and local trust supporters. He is the President of EAR Engineering, Construction & Support services. He visits India regularly and lives/works from the USA.
