Telangana for Peace and Unity (TPU), a broad platform of concerned citizens and people’s organizations is organizing a Peace March tomorrow (April 24th) from Babu Jagjivan Ram statue near L.B. Stadium in Basheerbagh to Babasaheb Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund. TPU is a platform aimed to work towards establishing peace and unity of all communities in Hyderabad and across Telangana, especially at a time when religious fundamentalist forces are trying to spread communal hatred in the country.
Telangana for Peace and Unity appeals to common citizens of all communities to join the march and send a public message that we will not allow the relationship between communities in the state to deteriorate. Through the Peace March, TPU is giving a call to the people of all communities to preserve the spirit of harmony with which different communities respect and live with one another in the city of Hyderabad and the entire state of Telangana. TPU appeals to the people not to fall prey to the attempts by certain groups to arouse communal passions, target people of particular communities and escalate tensions between communities and religions.
After the Peace March, Telangana for Peace and Unity plans to work in the coming months with people in the state.
After the Peace March, Telangana for Peace and Unity plans to work in the coming months with people in the state to wean away those attracted to communal politics and religious radicalization, and preserve the composite tolerant culture of Telangana. Earlier this week, TPU conducted a press meet on April 20th announcing its formation and has also written a joint letter to the Chief Minister of Telangana urging the government to proactively maintain peace and prevent the elements trying to flare up communal tensions.
TPU also appeals to government of Telangana to uphold the constitutional rights of people and the rule of law, and reassure people of all religions that their rights and safety would be protected.
Many eminent citizens of all communities are involved in this effort, including many who were involved in communal harmony since the 1980’s as part of Hyderabad Ekta.
