“THAT WHICH IS UNSEEN” : Prashant Panjiar’s three images

“My pictures are the only ones of the domes of the Babri Masjid as they fell on the fateful day” says Prashant Panjiar. We can visit the images in the exhibition and can read many more such important historical back stories from his book “That which is unseen”, released today evening at Indian photo festival, Hyderabad.

‘That Which is Unseen’, is a compilation of back stories from Sri Prashant Panjiar’s years as a photojournalist. Here is a story that is recorded as ‘Nation’s Shame” through his images and words in the book.

Besides the book launching, his works along with these most important captures also exhibited in the state gallery of art, as part of Indian photo festival, seventh edition.

Within the span of 19 minutes, the tombs were disappeared. He writes about the episode with the heading “Ek Dhakka Aur Do”…

6th December 1992. Once the Kar Seva had begun, the photographers and TV crews at the platform in front of the Temple – Masjid complex had been systematically attacked by the mob and confined to prevent them from recording the assault on the mosque. However, atop the Ram Katha Kunj, I was able to photograph through the day with impunity because it was assumed that i was one of them. My pictures are the only ones of the domes of the Babri Masjid as they fell on the fateful day.

Which Is Unseen

Prashant Panjiar, a self-taught photographer, worked full-time as a photojournalist and editor in mainstream media from 1984 to 2001. Since then he has been working independently as a photographer specializing in reportage, editorial and documentary photography, a photo editor and curator. He is also He is the co-founder and managing trustee of Nazar Foundation.

Indian photo festival is showcasing his works with the same title of his book which holds a mirror to the major issues that have shaped India’s recent history.
