IN THIS LIFE OF UNCERTAINITY : Paintings by Sumana Nath De

I started working on the topic, human body when I personally got the experience, an incident took place in my life.

Human life’s uncertainty. The body is made of bones, muscles and skin. The machinery of the body can stop working internally without giving any notice. Resulting in the death of a person. Leaving behind a big vacuum in our lives. I started working on the topic, human body when I personally got the experience, an incident took place in my life.

My father, Artist Sachin Nath, who was my everythin and Guru, left us in 2015. He just disappeared from my life and I was totally helpless. Left a big vacuum in my life. It didn’t stop here, I lost my cousin, father in law, brother in law, and in the same way, many known and unknown human beings. Later, Corona came, the great pandemic period. It has taken away so many lives. Leaving me thoughtful about life and death. Many questions kept triggering me and it still does. Like… I am with the person and the next moment he or she is not there. Gone from the world to never come back. Felt so helpless to not see my father any more.

in this life of uncertainty, let’s live with nature and give back whatever we can to our mother Earth.

I kept searching for him in every old man who crossed by me, but never saw my father again. These emotions and feelings are then put in my paintings. In the process, I started making this series of paintings, expressing that the human body and its fragments are just cells. The final destination for all the living creatures is to perish in mud at the end. So, in this life of uncertainty, let’s live with nature and give back whatever we can to our mother Earth.
